About

I’m a book-obsessed twentysomething with a B.A. in writing who works in a science-based field. I don’t get to talk enough about bookish things in my day-to-day life, so I love that I’ve been able to connect with more readers through blogging and Instagram.

My favorite type of books are unique books; I love creativity in writing, whether that means a unique concept, writing structure, or character. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy in all their iterations (magical realism, speculative fiction, dystopian fiction, etc) but I also read from a variety of genres including realistic fiction, YA, and nonfiction. Favorite authors include Margaret Atwood, Octavia Butler, Jose Saramago, N.K. Jemisin, Roxane Gay, Ilona Andrews, and Jeff Vandermeer. I absolutely love getting book recommendations and finding new ways to branch out in my reading.

You can also find me on Instagram and Litsy at @beachesnbooks 🙂

  1. Hello there! My name is Aya, and I am a fellow book blogger/lover at ablessedbrownie.wordpress.com. I was wondering if you’d be interested in participating in a small project that I am doing. I wanted to ask a bunch of bloggers (49, to be exact :p), to give me one of their favorite book quotes. I’m going to compile them all in one post and then post it on my blog on the 22nd of this month. It’d be fantastic if you were to be a part of this. Just let me know by this Sunday, please, so that I have plenty of time to compile and/or ask someone else. Thank you!
P.S. You are the 32nd one to be asked!

      1. Great! 😀 Just send me a quote either from a book, or about a book. You can just respond back here with it, or you could leave it on the Introduction page of my blog.

      2. This is one of my all-time favorite book quotes, from Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood:
“How did this happen? their descendants will ask, stumbling upon the evidence, the ruins. The ruinous evidence. Who made these things? Who lived in them? Who destroyed them?…Perhaps they’ll say, These things are not real. They are phantasmagoria. They were made by dreams, and now that no one is dreaming them any longer they are crumbling away.”

  2. I swear to God this is unique. Can I interest you in my audiobook? It’s about a struggling artist who gets a lifetime commission, but discovers his perfect patron has ulterior motives. It’s very different, it’s very fun, it’s very free. My wordpress site has all the details.

  3. Hi Emmy, I’m an assistant editor at Europa Editions, and would be interested in sending you an ARC of a book in exchange for an honest review! Let me know what you think.
